A Certificate of Analysis (COA) is an official document issued by an accredited, independent laboratory that verifies the chemical composition and safety of a cannabis or hemp product. COAs confirm:
Cannabinoid Potency
Exact percentages of THCa, Delta-9 THC, CBD, CBG, and more.
Terpene Profile
The aromatic compounds that influence flavor and effect.
Safety Screening
Absence of pesticides, heavy metals, residual solvents, and microbials.
Batch Traceability
A unique batch/lot number linking the COA to a specific production run.

π How to Read a COA
COAs can look intimidating at first glance. Here's a plain-English breakdown of the key sections:
THCa %
THCa (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is the raw, non-psychoactive precursor to Delta-9 THC found in the hemp plant. It converts to Delta-9 THC when exposed to heat (combustion or vaporization). A higher THCa % means more potent effects when consumed. Our flower and vape products are selected for premium THCa concentrations.
Delta-9 THC %
This is the federally regulated cannabinoid. Under the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp-derived products must contain β€ 0.3% Delta-9 THC on a dry-weight basis. All CannaCompare products are compliant. The COA will clearly show this value β look for it under "Total THC" or "Ξ9-THC."
Total Active Cannabinoids
This figure sums all detected cannabinoids (THCa, CBD, CBG, CBN, etc.) and gives you a picture of the product's overall potency and complexity. A diverse cannabinoid panel often indicates a richer, more nuanced experience.
Terpene Profile
Terpenes are the aromatic compounds responsible for the distinct smell and flavor of each strain β and they interact with cannabinoids to shape the overall experience (the "entonnage effect"). Common terpenes include:
Earthy, musky; associated with relaxing effects.
Citrusy; associated with uplifting, mood-enhancing effects.
Spicy, peppery; may have anti-inflammatory properties.
Floral, piney; often found in sativa-leaning strains.
Lavender-like; associated with calming effects.
Safety Panels
Look for "PASS" results across all safety categories:
Confirms no harmful agricultural chemicals.
Confirms safe levels of lead, arsenic, cadmium, and mercury.
Relevant for extracts/concentrates; confirms clean extraction.
Confirms absence of mold, yeast, and harmful bacteria.
Batch / Lot Number
Every COA is tied to a specific production batch. Match the batch number on your product packaging to the COA to confirm you're viewing the correct test results for your exact product.
